The Motörhead wordmark is one of the most recognisable pieces of lettering in heavy music. Spiky, cramped, slightly gothic, and completely unmistakable at any size — including this one. Forty years on, it hasn’t needed changing once.
Picking the logo over an album design gives you something that isn’t tied to a particular record or era. It just says Motörhead, which is the whole point. For a band whose catalogue is so consistent that fans argue happily about favourites, that feels about right.
