By 1969, Hendrix was the best-paid rock musician in the world and was invited to play at Woodstock. The performance was plagued with issues, a 12-hour delay in the showtime, and no sleep for 3 days for Jimi and his band, causing them to have trouble connecting during the performance. But, Hendrix still created the rock moment of the 60s by playing the US national anthem with extreme distortion and feedback. Mimicking bombs dropping. The performance was understood as a protest anthem against the Vietnam war.
