The medieval iron cross has flared arms that widen toward the tips, and that shape does the work here — bold enough to read at a glance, clean enough that it doesn’t tip into fussiness. It’s been a fixture of biker and rock jewellery for decades for exactly that reason.
At 1.25 in (3 cm) it’s well judged. Big enough to sit as the clear centrepiece of a chain, small enough that it doesn’t swing around or catch on a jacket zip. That’s the size most people land on once they’ve tried a few.
Stainless steel is the sensible material for something worn daily. It holds its colour, shrugs off sweat and rain, and doesn’t need polishing or taking off before a shower. Pendants in softer metals start looking tired within a year. This won’t.
It hangs well on a heavier link chain, where the weight of the two is balanced, and equally well on something finer if you’d rather the pendant carry the whole look on its own. Over a plain tee, under a leather jacket, at a show or on an ordinary Tuesday — it doesn’t ask much of the rest of what you’re wearing.
