Aeon

During the summer of 1999 the four members Tommy Dahlström, Zeb Nilsson, Johan Hjelm and Arttu Malkki of the newly broken up band Defaced Creation decided to form a new death-metal band that should try to create a more pioneering and miscellaneous style, instead of doing the usual “old-school” death-metal, (even though the roots was in the “old-school” death-metal). Later Morgan Nordbakk joined Aeon to fill in as the other guitarist.

During the fall of this year, Aeon recorded their first demo, which included the songs “Return of Apolluon”, “Eternal Hate”, “With Blood they Pay”, “The Awakening”, “Bloodlust” and “Hell Unleashed”.

In may 2001 the 6-track demo was released as a MCD – entitled “Dark Order” – thru Necropolis rec. “Dark Order” sold out very fast, and still today, people asks for it.

Later this year Morgan Nordbakk leaves Aeon, to be replaced by Daniel Dlimi (ex Equinox ov the Gods). This was good for the band since Daniel also was a experienced song-writer for this kind of death-metal, and he picked up on Aeon´s concept very fast.

The summer of 2002, drummer Arttu Malkki leaves the band to be replaced by Nils Fjellström.

Aeon starts to work on material for their upcoming debut album more effective.

In the fall of 2003 Aeon starts recording “Bleeding the False”. which was released on sept 20th in 2005 through Unique Leader. the album gets very good response from both fans and media.

In april 2006 Aeon hits the roads in Europe with Cannibal Corpse which was great promotion for the band.  Later that summer Aeon parts ways with longtime bassplayer Johan Hjelm, and in Juli Aeon signs a deal with Metal Blade rec.

In Sept Max Carlberg join Aeon as the new bassplayer.

In april 2007 Aeon records the album “Rise to Dominate” and in september it was released by Metalblade Records. Much like the previous album, this one did get a very good response from both media and fans.

In 2008 Aeon starts to work on material for their third full-length album “Path of Fire”, and they also lands an endorsement deal with Schecter Guitars thru Fitzpatrick and Hamm & Nilsson.

In January 2009 Aeon hits the European roads with Hate Eternal, Misery Index and See You Next Tuesday and after that they continued working on the new album.

In september Aeon part ways with bassplayer Max Carlberg and he is being replaced by former Satyricon bassplayer Victor Brandt and the band recorded the album “Path of Fire”..

In november Aeon supports Mayhem on their Swedish dates on their “25 years of chaos” tour.

In Januari 2010 bassplayer Victor leaves Aeon and is being replaced by Marcus Edvardsson.

Zeb gives some info on the new album:

“Path of Fire” was recorded once again in Empire Studio engineered by Marcus Edvardsson in sept 2009. It was recorded in an unusual way since we recorded the guitars and the bass to  a drum machine before Nils tracked the drums. We had to do this to keep the deadline and Nils was busy the first period of Sept and time was running and we could not just sit on our asses.  Since Nils is used to play after a click (even at shows) this wasn´t a problem even though it kind of freaked you out before Nils was done with his part. The frightening thoughts were of course that “what if it will sound weird”.

Lyrical theme is the same as always: very anti-religious.  Very critical to the church, and the people behind Christ.  I think Tommy did a great job as usual writing the lyrics as well as the vocal patterns, especially since the new songs are of complex, but Tommy kind of wrapes it all together and makes it easier to listen to. I guess the new album have more fast songs than the last one, yet still it has the groove that is so important.

The album was mixed by multi-talent Erik Rutan at Mana Studio in Florida an mastering was done by Alan Douches for West West Side Music.  We talked to Erik about this idea on our tour we did with Hate Eternal and he really felt like doing it too so here we are.  Of course he did a great job, the guitars came out HUGE! And this production has more of the classical Death Metal-feeling to it, more organic and dynamic than most modern productions out there today.  I couldn’t be more happy with how it all came out.

Cover art and layout was once again made by no other than our own Daniel Dlimi.  As usual he did an excellent job.  It really reflects the music and the lyrical theme I think.  It looks very epic and cool.

Daniels comment on the cover artwork:

I made this symbol that for me reflects life, death and the path you have chosen to live your life by.

Its about whatever you want to chain yourself to 10 commandments or live free after your own conscience and will.
